Weekday Windfall History
Find out about the history of Weekday Windfall, charting how the game was launched to take the place of Monday and Wednesday Lotto. All the key events for Weekday Windfall will also be outlined here as time goes on.
Monday and Wednesday Lotto
Prior to Weekday Windfall, there was Monday and Wednesday Lotto. It had all started back in 1979 with Monday Lotto, a draw that was specific to New South Wales.
Wednesday Lotto was then introduced as a second weekly draw, with the games played nationally across Australia and packaged together as Monday & Wednesday Lotto. They were just known by slightly different names depending on your location, such as Monday and Wednesday Gold Lotto in Queensland, or X Lotto in South Australia.
The format of the game involved a 6/45 matrix from early on, but other aspects evolved over time. It offered a guaranteed Division 1 prize of $1 million to a maximum of four winners, while other promotions such as Double Your Win draws and Cashcade Celebrations were also brought in.
Weekday Windfall Begins
In early 2024, it was announced that Monday and Wednesday Lotto would be coming to an end and that the draws would be replaced by something new, subject to regulatory approval.
It was later confirmed that the new lottery would be called Weekday Windfall, with the first draw taking place on Monday 20th May. In Western Australia, where lotteries are operated by Lotterywest, the game was given a different name - Millionaire Medley.
The new game was essentially the same as Monday & Wednesday Lotto, but with a couple of adjustments to make it more exciting. The main one was the addition of a third weekly draw on a Friday night.
The prize fund for Division 1 was also increased from $4 million to $6 million, making it possible for up to six players to win $1 million each in a draw.
With the formation of Weekday Windfall, it gave the revamped game a national brand instead of state-specific identities. To support the changes, there was a small increase to the ticket cost (from $0.55 to $0.60 per game, plus commission), while a Weekday 3 Play bundle was introduced as a new entry type to make it easier to take part in all three draw days at once.
